Montana is often called “The Last Best Place” and it’s easy to understand why; its unspoiled landscape of majestic mountains, flowing rivers, and that legendary “Big Sky” have long attracted trailblazers, dreamers, and people who march to the beat of their own heart. In this spirit of adventure, we invite you to Montana for a wedding photography workshop unlike any other. In true Montana style, we welcome you to spend 3 days with us surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, during which we will elevate your photography skills, refine your style, take your business and brand to new heights, and build a portfolio of stunning images with Montana as your backdrop. We are thrilled to be partnering with Greenwood Events, who will be joining us as workshop designer and florist. Stacey Foley of Joy Wed, a branding and marketing expert, will also be joining us as a guest teacher.
You dream of booking your ideal clients and shooting high-end weddings, but you're struggling to break into that market and network with the vendors you aspire to work with. We will share our story of how we got our foot in the door of the high-end, destination wedding world and how to sustainably build a business that will allow you to consistently attract the right clients for you and book your dream destination weddings.
We have been shooting film for the past 6 years and are now also developing and processing it ourselves. We will teach you how to choose your film stock, how to shoot film in every lighting situation (from harsh daylight to dark interiors), how to meter consistently, and how to communicate with your lab to get the results you want. You don’t have to be a film shooter or own a film camera to attend, but we want to provide a way for you to learn about our process and how we’ve become some of the top film photographers in the Northwest.
We’ve been able to build a 6-figure wedding photography business in Montana, a place with a 4-month wedding season. We want to share with you the ins and outs of our journey and how we’ve gotten here. It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to our craft, our clients, our business practices, and our continuing education. We are passionate about sharing the knowledge we’ve gathered so you can build a profitable business.
We will unravel the mysteries around building a strong brand and how to refine your artistic voice to stand out in a saturated market. We will then apply these principles to all aspects of marketing your brand so you can connect to your dream clients and consistently book your ideal weddings.
One of the most challenging aspects of being a small-business owner in a creative industry is the isolation and the tendency to burn out. Too often you feel all alone with no kindred spirits who understand what you're going through. This workshop will provide an inspiring setting in which to connect with other like-minded creatives, reinvigorate your artistic spirit, and establish an inner circle of friends who will be your biggest resources and champions long after the workshop ends.
Networking with other industry professionals is one of the most important yet intimidating aspects of owning your own business. We will share how to build lasting, meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with the people you really want to work with. Hint: It's about what you can do for them, not what they can do for you.
One of the best ways to break into photographing mountain weddings is by having a portfolio of images that show you have experience photographing in the mountains! Greenwood Events is designing three stunning shoots that will celebrate mountain weddings, including a bridal shoot, a rehearsal dinner shoot, and a full wedding shoot, complete with ceremony, reception, couples portraits, and details. Gabrielle Hurwitz, former editor of Style Me Pretty, will be joining us as fashion stylist and making sure every last detail is insanely gorgeous!
Often times the difference between a good image and an AMAZING image comes down to the styling. Whether it's a flat-lay image of a wedding invitation, or a captivating portrait of your couple, good styling and artistic direction help elevate your images. We will teach you the principles of good design and composition when styling artistically engaging imagery. We will have a hands-on portion of the workshop for you to master your styling and composition skills with beautifully curated items that will be available to you.
Hosted by Samantha and Reid of Orange Photographie, The Montana Workshop will be a 3-day, all-inclusive workshop at Foster Creek Farm, a luxury wedding venue in Montana's stunning Gallatin Valley. We are thrilled to have Darci and Arden Greenwood of Greenwood Events joining us as guest speakers as well as designing and styling our two wedding shoots. We will also be joined by Stacey Foley of Joy Wed. Stacey will teach you how to create a brand strategy that evokes emotion and connection with your ideal clientele in turn creating more profit for your company from loyal, repeat clients.
This workshop will provide established photographers and aspiring film-shooters with the opportunity to learn, grow, and create in the legendary Big Sky state. It will be a time to learn new skills, strengthen your business model and marketing, elevate your brand and portfolio, be inspired, and create lasting friendships. We will have classroom time, one-on-one website & portfolio reviews, as well as 3 editorial shoots to fill your portfolio with stunning Montana wedding imagery. We are limiting the number of attendees to 10 to ensure we can give each attendee the time and attention they deserve, both in the classroom and during the shoots.
September is one of the most beautiful months in Montana, with warm, sunny days and cool, quiet nights under a Big Sky that turns into a starry extravaganza after the sun sets. We will take time to unwind around bonfires, explore the property (it has 360° views of 4 mountain ranges!), and relax with each other after satisfyingly full days.
Most importantly, we want to be fully transparent with you and share everything we've learned throughout the last 9 years in business. We want you to take away practical, step-by-step processes and action plans that you can implement in your business immediately and start seeing growth in both your photography and your business right away.
Workshop Topics: Attracting and booking your ideal clients, film photography basics, breaking into the high-end wedding market, authentic & effective branding, building a profitable business, social media & marketing strategy, finding a healthy work/life balance, getting published, wedding-day styling, capturing natural & emotion-filled images, networking with vendors, and much more.
Included: Accommodations on site at Foster Creek Farm; all meals; classroom time with Orange Photographie, Greenwood Events, & Stacey Foley; three wedding shoots designed & styled by Greenwood Events with fashion styling by Gabrielle Hurwitz; headshots; portfolio & website review.
Not included: Travel to Montana is not included, but if you will be flying in from out of town, we will help arrange transportation from the airport to Foster Creek Farm. The best airport to fly into is Bozeman (BZN).
